Nazareth School, Balmatta, hosted its much-anticipated Annual Sports Day on October 29, 2024. The event began at 8:30 AM with the arrival of the chief guest, Mrs. Lilly Pais, Taluk Physical Education Officer (TPEO) of Mangaluru South. She was joined by the school’s Principal, Sr. Marceline D’Souza, along with Sr. Vincy, Sr. Elizabeth Rani, all the sisters of the convent, PTA Vice President Mr. Ajay Terence Cardoza, and other dignitaries.
The program started with a guard of honor for the guests, followed by a synchronized march-past by the students. The ceremonial flag hoisting marked the formal opening of the day’s events, and the torch-lighting ceremony followed, symbolizing the spirit of sportsmanship. A prayer song created a reverent atmosphere before Syed Mishari of Grade 10 gave a heartfelt welcome speech. Miss Aldrisha then introduced the guest and presented her with a sapling as a gesture of appreciation and environmental commitment.
The students then took an oath to uphold the values of fair play, followed by the official inauguration of the sports events. The prize distribution for Grades 9 and 10 took place shortly after, led by the chief guest and other dignitaries. In her speech, Mrs. Lilly Pais encouraged students to balance academics with physical activity, emphasizing the role of sports in building character and resilience. The Principal, Sr. Marceline D’Souza, echoed these sentiments in her message, reminding students of the values that sports instill.
Adding a vibrant touch to the event, students from Grades 5 to 10 performed an exhilarating Zumba dance that energized the audience. Meha from Grade 9 offered a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all those who contributed to the day’s success.
The event’s flow was skillfully managed by Mokshitha of Grade 10 and Ashwin Kumar of Grade 8, who served as Masters of Ceremony. Throughout the day, students from Grades 1 to 10 enthusiastically participated in various sports events. The prize distribution for each category celebrated their efforts and achievements.
The closing ceremony took place at 3:45 PM, with Aston Regan, Cornelia, and Gladson Figreda of Grade 10 concluding the day’s proceedings. All teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, and students actively participated in the day’s events. Lunch was provided for all students and staff, contributing to the warm community atmosphere.
The Annual Sports Day at Nazareth School was a resounding success, celebrating not only athletic excellence but also camaraderie, teamwork, and school spirit.
